Prison Issues of Concern

The U.S. is the only Country in the World having mass incarceration and it needs to change. Prisoners are having their Civil Rights Violated. They have no voice and until the Media, Legislative Members and the Dept. of Justice begans to do unannounced visits to the prisons and meet with the incarcerated individuals, problems will not be resolved.

Another issue is the fact that U.S. Incarcerated Citizens who have NOT committed any crime against this country should maintain their Voting Rights. It is not fair to Prisoners or their families who have lived in the United States all their lives to be suddenly be stripped of their rights to vote when they and their loved ones have previously and/or currently paid taxes into a system that chooses to violate an individuals right to vote because of a mistake made, Especially when it involves a first and only offense.

Other issues of concern is that many incarcerated individuals are targeted by staff and/or prison officials and denied the rights to programs participation. If an incarcerated individual has nothing to demonstrate their willingness to be productive, the chances of ever having a parole hearing and eventual release, is very low. Many prisoners try very hard to get involved in vocational and/or educational programs only to be denied. It is an issue that needs more oversight of, by the Dept. of Justice and by Government Lawmakers.

There needs to be oversight of the overseers of the incarcerated. Many Prisoners throughout the years have had problematic issues with specific Correctional Officers, and when filing grievances pertaining to the issues, prisoners are ignored or told they will just have to deal with it. However, when their only options are to "Deal With It", they in many cases fight back. Hence, riots break out in prisons around the country, and/or hunger strikes.
